Auckland’s Media Design School has won a trophy for Best Sci-Fi Film at the Mississippi International Short Film Festival. MDS 3D programme leader James Cunningham directed the CGI/live action alien comedy, First Contact, which took 14 advanced 3D production students 7000 hours to make. Established screenwriter Nick Ward wrote the script.

First Contact includes 55 digital effects.
