Tokyo eyes Aegis

Tokyo-based agency group Dentsu Inc has made an offer – almost certain to be accepted – to purchase Carat owner Aegis Group, creating a global giant with 33,000 staff.

“This is a rare opportunity to combine two world-class businesses with aligned visions and strategies, and complementary client, geographic and product portfolios to the benefit of shareholders, clients and our people,” said Aegis Australia & NZ executive chairman Harold Mitchell.

The combined group will retain the Aegis structure in Australasia, with Mitchell remaining in the executive chairman role. If approved by Aegis shareholders, the deal will be finalised in Q4.
